Aos professores, aos miseráveis, a Paulo, adeus follows a Portuguese language teacher who, in a Brazil projected into 2030 and marked by censorship, authoritarianism and inequality, crosses the country in search of refuge in Ceará. Along the way, she exchanges coded letters with a secret correspondent and revisits memories of the classroom, of social destitution and of a pedagogical practice oriented towards emancipation.
The production takes as its starting point the novel O Quinze, by Rachel de Queiroz, shifting the social and political questions present in the book into the present. From this encounter, the work brings together displacement, education, democracy and temporality, with the thought of Paulo Freire as one of its main references for imagining, within a state of exception, forms of resistance and the possibility of a future.
ON THE STAGING
The staging organises the monologue around a fragmented space, made up of metal structures, platforms, passageways and different levels. The actress moves continuously through this architecture, which alternates between functions of passage, shelter, waiting and confinement.
Letters, objects, projections and small audiovisual devices are integrated into the composition of the scene, allowing different scales of image and presence to coexist on stage. The performer's movement, the spatial organisation and these visual elements construct a dramaturgy that runs parallel to the text, marked by instability and by a sense of permanent transit.
At its premiere at the Museu da Imigração, the railway tracks and the actual passage of trains were incorporated into the experience of the staging. The space functioned not only as a performance venue but as a concrete layer of the work itself, placing the character's journey in direct relation with a territory historically associated with arrivals, departures and displacement.

CREATION PROCESS
The research for Aos professores, aos miseráveis, a Paulo, adeus was preceded by a cycle of three performances staged in public spaces across São Paulo in 2019. The actions investigated relations of exchange, memory, displacement and listening, creating situations of direct encounter with people moving through different areas of the city.
